How do I appeal my SASSA SRD grant for July?

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) assists those in need with financial assistance. While unemployed or earning very little income, these individuals receive social grants that allow them to purchase basic goods every month.

A grant application for the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) program should ensure that they meet all the eligibility criteria for the grant. The application must be accompanied by supporting documents. It is unfortunately not possible to accept all applications. If applicants feel they were unfairly excluded, they are welcome to appeal the decision.

  1. Go to the SRD website.

SRD Grant Appeal

The SRD grant appeal must be submitted each month by grant applicants whose applications were rejected by the SRD. A grant appeal must be submitted within 90 days of receiving notification of the outcome.

The Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA) finalizes appeals of SRD grants. The appeal process takes 60 to 90 days to complete.

Final Decisions

Final decisions are made by the ITSAA. A person who is unhappy with the outcome of their appeal may apply to the high court for judicial review within 180 days of receiving the decision of the ITSAA.

A grant applicant may appeal to the Minister of Social Development in writing, explaining their disagreement with Sassa’s decision. Unsuccessful grant applicants will be advised on the process by Sassa staff on how to submit an appeal.
